Soul of the World Multicultural Choir

The Soul of the World Multicultural Choir is a community project celebrating diversity. We aim to bring people together by sharing in the rhythms, poetic language and harmonies of the world. Singers help choose international songs, develop arrangements and co-create new music as well. We also discuss ways to create harmonious community and share our ideas through our music. All levels, languages, ages and abilities are welcome, no audition necessary. (Youth under 19 must be accompanied by an adult.) The group is facilitated by Singer, songwriter, voice coach and arts facilitator Heidi McCurdy. This project is made possible through funding from the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia. www.harmonyartsandwellness.com

Gayatri Mantra

SANSKRIT:
Aum Bhur Bhuva Svaha
Tat Savitur Varenyam
Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi
Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat

TWO TRANSLATIONS BY HEIDI MCCURDY:

1.
As the light of the sun shines on the earth, in the sky,
and in the heavens, so may it shine on us.
So may it illuminate and enlighten our hearts.

2.
I sing the primordial hum, the sound of the universe.
My whole self sings, and everything sings with me:
The reality, the possibility, and the dream.

Resplendent Sun,
I bask in your divine essence
So I may have the freedom to shine
My heart’s own illumination.
